KUMAAI began with a simple frustration: finding everyday things that felt as good as they looked.
We're Akash and Kanika, and like most people who eventually start a brand, we didn't set out to build one. It started with noticing the same thing over and over — products that photographed beautifully online but didn't hold up once they arrived. Materials that didn't feel right. Quality that didn't match the price. Choices that felt more about profit margins than the person buying them.
So we did what most people don't — we went and looked for better. We spent time with makers and manufacturers, going through materials by hand, checking finishing, sending things back until they felt right — not just looked right in a photo.
That's how KUMAAI was built: not from a business plan, but from a genuine want to make things people would actually love using, not just buying.
What KUMAAI Means
KUMAAI is rooted in warmth and belonging — the kind you feel around familiar, well-loved things. It's a name we chose because that's exactly how we want everything we make to feel: comfortable, personal, and yours.
Where We're From
We're based out of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh — a city that doesn't always get its due in India's brand story, but one that's given us the grounding to build something honest. From here, we work directly with skilled makers and manufacturers across India to bring you products that are made with intention, not put together without a second thought.
What We Believe In
We're building KUMAAI as a home for things you'll actually use every day — not a brand chasing one category or one season. What stays constant, no matter what we make, is how we think about it:
